3d Realms Bankrupt and Closed

May 7, 2009

The Developer Studio (3D REALMS) from Scott Mills and George Broussard is apparently bankrupt and closed.
“This is not about marketing. It is true. Currently, I have nothing further to say” ( “It’s not a marketing thing. It’s true. I have nothing further to say at this time”), commented Joe Siegler, employees of 3D realms, in the forum of the developer finally reports in the American trade, which were always practical. His employer is apparently broke – and that means the current state and the end of the last only as Vapor-product success and longest joke of the games history of Duke Nukem Forever.
Specific reasons are unknown, U.S. media suggest that the studio also as a result of the financial crisis the money is expected. Development boss George Broussard had only a few days ago on Twitter written, in the production of Duke Nukem Forever is an important milestone has been reached. Supposedly, the employees of 3D Realms has already dismissed.Video: Duke Nukem Forever – 2007 published Trailer (1:10)

Not affected by the closure of the studio is said to be closely affiliated with 3D Realms company Apogee. The is currently with Deep Silver – a mark of the German Publishers Koch Media – development team at

Frontline Games handheld game Duke Nukem Trilogy to develop.

Duke Nukem Forever was officially since 1997 in the middle of development – more than any other game. Reasons for the long production time, including several changes of graphics engine and the internal problems of the team. But what exactly behind the scenes at 3D Realms was going on, never penetrated to the public. In particular, George Broussard was in all the years almost exclusively short, sometimes cryptic statements on the state of development itself. The game has received several awards from the Wired Vaporware Award – a dubious honor to products which, despite announcements by the manufacturers do not come onto the market.

At least theoretically, there is the possibility that someday a game with the title Duke Nukem Forever on the market. This should be a developer or a publisher the rights to the program and buy the brand name, owns the distribution rights Take 2nd (ps)

I seriously doubt this is truly another Ion Storm case. George and company are smarter than this. Least I hope so.
