1821 the Greeks rebelled against the ruling in the eastern Mediterranean Ottoman Empire – 25 March is now a memorial of this battle, and today the National Day of the Greeks. Like many immigrant groups in the United States, the Greeks celebrate “their” day with a big parade through the streets of New York, this year on 26 April.
