Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ:DNDN) said that its experimental Provenge prostate cancer treatment improved the survival in men with advanced forms of the disease. The Provenge drug treats the disease, different from other drugs that act like traditional vaccines, which are aimed at disease prevention. Since the Phase III clinical trials were successful, meeting its goal of improving survival, Dendreon said it would seek U.S. regulatory approval for the drug in Q4. In addition, the drug was said to work on men with late-stage prostate cancer, which had taken drugs to lower testosterone (the hormone that causes cancer to progress) and were unsuccessful.
