I know you want to know how to drive more traffic to your website, but you probably aren’t really certain how to do it. Most people focus more on search engine optimization, and while that is definitely a big part of getting traffic to your site, it’s far from being the only method. I’m going to give a couple of quick, easy and free ways to boost your traffic right now, directly.
I recommend you use Yahoo Answers. Go over, register for an account (it’s free) and start answering people’s questions that relate to whatever your website is about. Be helpful, and be honest, and then put a link to several sites, including your own, in the resources box.
You should also consider releasing press releases periodically. There are several sites that will distribute them for free, and they end up everywhere. If you write a compelling press release, people will click on your link and go back to the site.
There’s also a possibility that other sites or blogs might pick up the press release, and this will get you even more traffic. This technique is still largely unknown, making it all the more effective.
Twitter is a micro blogging platform, and can be highly useful for getting traffic. Micro blogging basically means you post entries, called tweets, of 140 characters or less and people read them.
Yes, it sounds weird and useless, until you start to do it. Then it becomes addicting. It’s pretty easy to get thousands of followers who’ll read your tweets, and this means that the occasional link back to your site is going to have a lot of eyes on it.
You can also try to leverage off someone else’s popularity by finding partners. There’s an old marketing saying that the money is in the list, which means you make money by having a group of people who are listening to what you have to say and want to hear from you.
Building your own list is a good idea, but can be arduous and time consuming. In the mean time, a better method is to find somebody who has already done the work for you and built their own list.
Fins someone who is in a related area to the one you’re in, but not necessarily the same exact area, because they will probably see you as competition. Offer them a chunk of whatever profit you make and you’re in business. Some people have lists of tens of thousands of people, and that adds up to a lot of people coming to your site.
There is a way to potential get thousand or even hundreds of thousands of visitors to your site, maybe even more, but I left it until last because it’s not something you can necessarily do on command. You need to do something remarkable. I mean that in the literal sense. Do something that people will talk about. Seth Godin calls this a Purple Cow, but the idea is that if you do something worth talking about, people will talk about it.
For most of us, this works better as a philosophy than a strategy. You should always be considering how to make your content something that people will want to read and talk about it. Never leave something just okay if you can make it great. Make sure everything is designed to make you as noteworthy as possible. Keep this in mind, and you may be able to get unlimited traffic. And that, my friends, is how to drive more traffic to your website.
