This list is supposedly the complete list of the 103 players who tested positive for banned substances back in 2003. It’s being thoroughly debunked by the Sons of Ivy.
Whoever made this up (assuming it’s fake) clearly hates the Cubs. Out of the 103, here are the current and former Cubs on the list:
1.Nomar Garciaparra
2.Manny Ramirez
3.Johnny Damon
4.Trot Nixon
5.David Ortiz
6.Shea Hillenbrand
7.Derek Lowe
8.Pedro Martinez
9.Brian Roberts
10.Jay Gibbons
Unless I’m mistaken, that list seems to be organized by teams of that year. Thus, Lo Duca, Green, Perez (I’m assuming that’s Odalis, and not Oliver), Beltre, Gagne, and Mota were roided. Lo Duca and Mota’s name were already out there. Gagne we could have easily guessed. But Beltre (who wasn’t even good until he sustained that foot injury a year later), Green (who just looked skinny), and Odalis (who, in hindsight, I could have guessed) are all new names. That’s a pretty impressive list of players. Shameful, but impressive.
Honestly, if this list is true, then I think the players need to come out, apologize, and everybody (including the media), moves on. Roids were the culture of the sport. Nobody told them that they were going to be severely punished for this. It wasn’t the right thing, but it was something 103 (at least) players did. With this list out, perhaps everybody can just move on, and stop acting surprised.
